As a friendly competitive club Nottingham Portland is committed to providing an environment whereby a child and adults welfare are kept in controlled safety.

The club ensures that all club coaches, teachers, helpers, team managers, and executive committee members are registered on the ASA Child Protection List, as well as signing to the club’s code of conduct & ethics to ensure that they demonstrate good practice. The club follows and abides by those principles set by the ASA Child Protection Programme Policy:

The child’s welfare is the first consideration.

All children, regardless of age, any disability the may have, gender, racial origin, religious belief and sexual identity have a right to be protected from abuse.

In line with the ASA guidelines Nottingham Portland keeps records and personal details of all use of photographic and video equipment during any function the club participates in. Nottingham Portland hopes that all swimmers, parents or media respect the precautions taken by the club.

The club continually aims to secure its members from any form of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional or through neglect), by not allowing it to foster in or outside the club environment. The club actively strives in co-ordination with its Welfare Officer and the ASA to promote competitive swimming to its members without fear of pressure or abusive behaviour.

The club promotes healthy communication with swimmers in a manner that reflects respect and care. Nottingham Portland encourages swimmers to confer with other coaches, teachers, volunteers or welfare officer if the need arises.

All Club members have the right to challenge abusive behaviour and promote welfare and child protection.

The club will deal with any abusive incident seriously, according to the club disciplinary procedures.

If you have an issue or would like to seek advice, please contact our Welfare officer - Jacqui Cameron Tel : 0115 846 2718 Email j.cameron11@ntlworld.com . Swim Line (on 0808 1004001) is also a good source of advice, where you can talk to someone who understands both swimming and the requirements of child protection.
