April 2008 NEWS Committee News It is with much regret that we announce that Tim Garton stepped down from the committee in March. He has played a massive part within the club for many years and his current roles included secretary, publicity support, Swim 21 and he was also a regular gala timekeeper. Much of what Tim did went on behind the scenes and it cannot be underestimated how much time each week he devoted to Portland Swimming Club. He will therefore be sorely missed and his ‘shoes’ will be very difficult to fill. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Tim for all his hard work and we wish him well for the future. For the short term, David Brook has kindly agreed to take on the role of Secretary. However, he is already Gala Secretary which is a large role in itself, so once again we ask you to consider whether you can spare a few hours to be a committee member. Even if you just want to come along to a meeting to hear more of what goes on behind the scenes then you will be most welcome. Distance Swim. This took place at the University Pool at the end of February. 18 swimmers took part and altogether they swam just under 40 kilometres in 50 minutes. It was great to see some of the younger swimmers doing so well. The full list of participants and distances achieved are shown below. Sam Haigh
