NEWS The new sessions at Victoria Leisure Centre on Tuesday evenings are attracting a good number of swimmers. This session is dedicated to improving technique of all strokes rather than stamina. It is therefore ideal for 10 – 12 year olds. The session is from 7.45 to 8.45. Whilst on the subject of training, can all swimmers who possess floats and pull buoys please ensure that they bring them to every session that they attend. They cannot help to improve technique if they are in the car or worse still at home in a cupboard! Splash Night Unfortunately due to unreasonable behaviour towards pool side staff at the pre Christmas splash night it has yet to be decided by the committee if it will happen again. The inflatables were not used safely and the children involved in this misuse failed to listen when asked to change the way they were behaving. Obviously this type of behaviour is unacceptable especially when all the adults involved, to make what should be a fun night happen, are volunteers. If another splash night is arranged then please be aware that all children under 8 must be accompanied by a responsible adult in the water. Competitive Start Awards (Shallow / Racing Dives). Mick Burke is going to arrange shallow/racing dive training sessions on a Sunday evening for swimmers to gain the above award. If you, or your son / daughter does not know how to dive or does not yet hold the Competitive Start Award, which enables them to dive from the blocks at galas, then please email Mick (michealburke@ntlworld.com) so that he is aware of how many children are interested and can plan his sessions accordingly. There is also going to be a badge awards night in the near future on a Sunday evening. We will keep you informed. Membership cards If, when you received your ASA Membership card, your details appeared incorrect you can contact them via email at renewals@swimming.org quoting your member id and the details that should be on your card so that they can send you a new one. Swimming Costume Update. Swimming costumes in Portland colours will be available shortly. They are being heavily subsidised by the club so will therefore be less than half price – WOW! This is because the club want as many people as possible to wear them at galas. SWIMMERS OF THE MONTH.
