JC Dobb – 8 March 2014

underwater-entryNottingham Portland swimmers united to represent the Club once again, this time at Bramcote Leisure Centre on Saturday 8th March for the second gala of the JC Dobb Spring Round.

There were a number of really good swims on the night – sister and brother Angelina and Gabriel notably – and some lovely stroke technique on show.

  • FREESTYLE PBs were manifest across all the age groups: Over 25m, Luke is now 2 seconds faster and Briony set a new time. Over 50m, new fastest times were achieved by Connor (even further below 30 seconds now), Ellen, William (2.5s quicker), Angelina D (3s) and Louis (7s … yes, 7 seconds!).
  • BACKSTROKE PBs were gained, over 50m, by Lucy (2.5s) and Michael P (with a 3rd place) and, over 25m, Gabriel (1 second, also 3rd place).
  • BREASTSTROKE PBs were recorded by Mia over 50m and in 25m races by Raj (3rd place), along with a new time for Briony.
  • 25m BUTTERFLY PB-ers were Gabriel and Maddie P (2s).

Others who were only just outside their PBs were: Angelina D, Georgia and Maddie (3rd) in Backstroke; Edward, Andrew and Stanley in Breaststroke; Michael and Dom in Butterfly.

Rebecca P was also extremely close to her best Freestyle time, so close in fact that she got a speeding ticket!

Congratulations to:

  • 1st place positions for Andrew in 50m Breaststroke; he also swam in the winning Freestyle relay team which included Dom, Connor and 13 year old seasoned Open category swimmer Michael.
  • Angelina D for 2nd place finishes in both her individual events.

Well done to:

  • Our 8 and 9 year olds, Zara, Ruby, Liam, Jamey (in only his second gala) and Angelina G, who between them achieved 3rd place in the medley relay and `swam up’ age groups in other relays.
  • Molly, Ethan and Gen for really good performances to make for some exciting relays. Thanks, Gen, for doing an impression of a 14 year old in the 14/U freestyle relay despite still being 11!
  • Those who `did it for the team’, swimming their avoid-at-any-cost strokes – Club Captain, Rebecca, leading the way with breaststroke.

We finished 5th and, despite a few DQs, it was a fruitful night with 13 PBs registered overall and 2 new times posted by Briony in her first inter-club gala. So, there was an element of sweet success … in more ways than one – vast quantities of Haribos were consumed by certain little people. You know who you are!

BIG THANKS as always to our hardworking helpers: team managers, time-keepers, judge and lane-ends and, above all, Dom – team selector, gala volunteer co-ordinator, coach and swimmer – it was great to have him there to guide our young swimmers even though his girls weren’t swimming. Thank you.
